SUMMARY:Remote Area Trauma Education (RATE)
DESCRIPTION:This one-day course is designed to provide remote area health professionals with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to be able to safely assess and manage trauma patients within the remote health centre until the arrival of the retrieval team. \n\n\n\nRATE is provided in remote health centres with an emphasis on practical skills\, small interactive groups and relevant scenarios. \n\n\n\nBy the end of the course participants will be able to: \n\n\n\n\nDescribe the initial assessment of the trauma patient in a remote setting.\n\n\n\nDemonstrate the assessment and management of a compromised airway.\n\n\n\nDemonstrate the assessment and management of chest / trauma injuries.\n\n\n\nDemonstrate the assessment and management of spinal injuries and haemorrhage control.\n\n\n\nDemonstrate how to give an effective clinical handover.\n\n\n\nDescribe the requirements for retrieval and transport of the remote trauma patient.\n\n\n\nTrauma Scenario \n\nAn opportunity for participants to demonstrate and highlight key learning points of the day\n\nPrimary survey\n\n\n\nSecondary survey\n\n\n\nClinical handover\n\n\n\nPackaging and transporting\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n*REGISTER AN EXPRESSION OF INTEREST – APPLICATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO REVIEW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSuitable Participants: \n\n\n\nIt is aimed at remote health personnel particularly General Practitioner (GPS)\, Remote Medical Practitioners (RMPs) Remote Area Nurses (RANs) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners (ATSIHPs). \n\n\n\nCourse Cost: \n\n\n\nSponsored by the NCCTRC \n\n\n\n[Prices and Course availability are subject to change] \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n    \n\n	    \n    \n        Registrations are closed for this event

DESCRIPTION:Number of participants: Max 12\n\n\n\nLocation: Katherine \n\n\n\nCriteria of Attendance \n\n\n\nThis course is limited to Emergency Nurses and Doctors\, Surgical Registrar’s\, Intensive Care Registrar’s\, Anaesthetic Registrar’s and whose current role is to work in the Trauma Call resuscitation team. \n\n\n\nObjectives of the course \n\n\n\nA multi-professional\, multidisciplinary simulation-based course that addresses teamwork skills and clinical practice relevant to trauma management. \n\n\n\nExpose trauma teams to simulated cases of serious trauma and provide them with an opportunity to rehearse early management of these cases focusing on their response andinteraction as a team. \n\n\n\nInstruct teams in the specific behavioural skills and attitudes relevant to effective trauma teamwork including;  \n\n\n\nTeam leadership/fellowship\, principals of ‘crisis’ management\, team communication\, negotiation and conflict resolution and safety culture. \n\n\n\nRevise general principals of trauma management according to best practices in the NT. \n\n\n\nRevise specific management of key trauma conditions such as head injury\, major haemorrhage and multi trauma. \n\n\n\nThis course is aimed at Emergency Nurses and Doctors\, Surgical Registrar’s\, Intensive Care Registrar’s\, Anaesthetic Registrar’s and whose current role is to work in the Trauma Call resuscitation team. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse Cost: \n\n\n\nNorthern Territory Government staff members: $115.00 (pp incl.GST) \n\n\n\nNon-Northern Territory Government staff: $130.00 (pp incl.GST) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n	\n	\n	\n    \n\n	    \n    \n        Registrations are closed for this event

DESCRIPTION:Major Incident Medical Management and Support \n\n\n\nRegistration Closes: 31 July 2026 \n\n\n\nNumber of participants: Min 10 / Max 24 \n\n\n\nLocation: Charles Darwin University – Alice Springs \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe 2-day MIMMS course provides participants with a structured approach to respond to a mass casualty incident at the scene\, with the focus on the role of the team member. \n\n\n\nThe content includes command safety\, communication\, assessment\, triage\, treatment and transport\, through: \n\n\n\n\nStructured lectures\n\n\n\nA series of table-top exercises\n\n\n\nPractical exercises in radio communication\n\n\n\nCasualty simulation triage exercises\n\n\n\nWorkshops\n\n\n\nField exercises for command training involving airport and large crowd incidents (sports or similar)\n\n\n\n\nSuitable Participants: \n\n\n\nThose in senior positions likely to take a coordination or command role or those involved with staff development/training.
