2021 – Fiji – COVID-19

The Government of Fiji submitted a formal request for AUSMAT support in June, 2021. On behalf of the Australian Government, NCCTC deployed a forward support team, followed by a second team (Bravo) the following month to undertake response assistance, focusing on infection prevention and control and establishing critical care systems. The Bravo team identified further needs and developed a proposal for a Charlie deployment.

Overall, AUSMAT’s primary role while deployed in Fiji was to provide high level strategic advice to Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Services and health facility managers in response to COVID-19 Delta variant transmission. In addition, AUSMAT personnel worked alongside FEMAT to provide upskilling and education courses to best support and instill confidence in local healthcare staff in central and regional health clinics.
