2021 – Papua New Guinea – COVID-19
In September 2021, Papua New Guinea suffered a surge in COVID-19 cases. The World Health Organisation and the Government of Papua New Guinea (GoPNG) put out a global call for Emergency Medical Teams to deploy to PNG to assist with the COVID-19 surge. The Government of Australia responded and there was a request for the Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) to assist.
This was the 5th such deployment to assist PNG’s COVID19 response. Over the course of a month, AUSMAT personnel provided senior technical support, as well as specialist critical care mobile clinical support, and the delivery of essential COVID-19 medical supplies to seven provinces and nine key healthcare facilities.
