In late January 2022, the Solomon Islands Government declared an Emergency Zone around the capital Honiara after the Pacific nation experienced a surge in COVID-19 cases. AUSMAT was activated to support the COVID-19 response. AUSMAT’s primary objectives were to provide clinical advisory support, establish appropriate clinical health strategies for COVID-19 emergency response, provide expert technical and clinical surge support and mentoring on infection prevention and control measure and acute patient care, and provide logistical support regarding the transport and distributing medical supplies. The team were active in providing technical support and mentoring across the nation, to multiple provinces beyond the Capital Territory that were experiencing an increase in hospitalisations.
