2025 – Samoa – Dengue outbreak
2025 – Samoa – Dengue outbreak
In April 2025, Samoa declared a dengue outbreak following a rise in cases, placing pressure on the health system. In response to a request for assistance, Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) specialists deployed to Samoa in August 2025.
Working alongside NZMAT and Samoan clinicians, the integrated team provided clinical support across hospital and community settings, managing dengue presentations and supporting early identification of high-risk cases.
This deployment marked the first time AUSMAT embedded within an NZMAT-led mission, demonstrating the strength of trans-Tasman collaboration and contributing to a coordinated regional response.
